Spoonula’s are great

The only thing bad I can say about these, is make sure they are rinsed very well before going in the dishwasher. They hold onto food chunks, butter, oil, etc. pretty bad. Other than that I can’t think of any other reason not to buy them. They have a good weight, are flexible enough to get into the curves of pans, and work great for making rice crispy treats.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a set.

handy – but what’s with the color?

I bought these to replace another um… not-so-heat-resistant rubber/plastic spatula that I accidently melted. The wife wasn’t amused.
However, we both think these are pretty darn good.
The slight spoon/scoop to them makes them useful when dealing with foods you want to serve.
They do a nice job of scraping the edge of a bowl, and most importantly…
they’re heat resistant to like 400 degrees or more! Gotta like that.
But um… I think maybe a color other than construction-zone-cone orange might have been nice.
Oh well… still worth while.

I wish I had come over these sooner. They are great! It is really true, they can stand heat and everything slips off when you wash them. No need for scrubbing these. Also I like a bit of color in my kitchen. This will be a great Christmas present!

The only wooden spoon needed

I purchased one of these some 13 years ago or so, and it would still be going strong, if it had not been washed in a dishwasher before I learned that you don’t put wood items in a dishwasher. That caused a split in the bowl of the spoon, but it still worked, split and all, for another 10 years, until recently, when I whacked it hard on another object in a foolish display of frustration, and it broke along the split.
What sets this spoon apart, is that it has an actual bowl that holds enough of something to taste or dish. Other wooden spoons, aside from being made of cheap materials like pine, that just will not stand up to heat and moisture, are also good for nothing but use as a stir stick, because they have such a flat shallow bowl, that you can’t ‘spoon’ anything with them.

The beech wood as well as the shape and dimension, made this a winning design in my book.

So I am getting another just like it, this time never to place in the dishwasher, and this time, hopefully, to refrain from unseemly tantrums.

A Real Wooden Spoon for Real Cooking.

I received this spoon a few weeks ago and have already made up my mind to purchase another, maybe two. This is a perfect upgrade from my bargain basement IKEA wooden spoons that i picked up after college. Although now i realize what I was missing. The bowl of the spoon is deep enough for almost 2Tbs of liquid and the handle is thick enough that wont spin in your hand when stirring a thick batter or when adding butter and milk to mashed potatoes. I highly recommend that you sand it with 400 grit sandpaper to smooth out the surfaces as well as treat it with a butchers block conditioner a few times before the first use and periodically there after. I expect this spoon to be around for a long time. I might even give it a name. Enjoy.

not the right size

The one they sent me, though it’s a perfectly nice cutting board, is not the one described or pictured. The one they sent me is 6 x 10, not 6 x 9. For my purposes, 6 x 10 is too large. Also, the picture shows a solid board, whereas the one they sent me has a hand-hold (a long narrow hole) on one end.

As I said, it’s a perfectly good cutting board — just not the one I ordered.

Love this mill just wish it was bigger!

We do a lot of home canning and preserving and purchased this mill to help with some of the chores associated with putting away pumpkin butter, grape butter, pumpkin puree and other foods. This was the only tool we found that helped get rid of the seeds and save the pulp of the grapes for our grape spread. We also own one of the large food strainers (Victorio or Roma type model) and this did a better job than that large, expensive strainer for that kind of work.

Things I really like:
–the “legs” of the strainer on the pot are coated with a rubberized surface that helps to keep them from slipping off the edge of the pot you are using it over. The handle seems to have the same coating and is pleasant to hold.
–also with the legs, they fold for storage, but I have found that folding them down around the sides of a 4-cup pyrex measuring cup also helps to hold it stable while using it.
–I like the white enamel (I think that’s what it is) coating on the outside of the pot. Very attractive.
–Easy to clean. If I clean this immediately after using, I can practically just rinse it in hot water and let it dry and it looks great.
–handle assembly is cleverly designed and feels sturdy and secure when using it.
–comes with 3 disks for different jobs. We use the most coarse disk for pumpkin and apples and it works beautifully. (Note, we do take the seeds out of our pumpkins before cooking and straining). We used the medium disk with our grapes this year and it did a nice job, but a few seeds did sneak through. Next year we will try the fine disk.

My ONLY quibble with this piece of equipment is that it is not bigger. As I mentioned above, it fits nicely over a 4-cup pyrex measuring cup. I’d be thrilled if it was larger. The pot itself probably doesn’t hold more than 4 cups. You *can* use it over a large pot, the legs will simply hold it there for you. It’s the size of the pot itself I am talking about.

Excellent food mill. This is the one!

I bought this mill after trying it out alongside the All Clad, and after having read the bad reviews of other high-end mills. Unlike the All-Clad, which has a fixed knob, the knob on the Oxo crank turns independently of the crank, so that you can grip it while turning without losing the skin off the palm of your hand. It’s quieter than the All-clad, which makes an annoying scraping sound, and it has those awesome retractable legs that let you rest it over any bowl. With the All-Clad, you have to either use All-clad pots or hold the whole thing in your other arm as you crank away with that horrible knob. So far, I have made amazing mashed potatoes and fresh heirloom tomato Bloody Mary’s. The fine mesh seive held back the seeds and skins of the tomato perfectly, which some mills won’t do. If you like seeds and skin in your sauces, just use the medium seive. The disks are VERY easy to switch out, just click the latch. Lastly, the Oxo is cheaper. If you want a food mill, this is the one!

After using an old aluminum food mill for years this one just knocked my socks off. Fits easily over a bowl or pot, stainless steel, does not slip, turns smoothly, has different size “screens”…I just love it. I make applesauce with skins, core, seeds and all, just cook halved apples with a little water, put the mash through the mill and the things you don’t want are left behind. A definite upgrade, easy to clean.

Great replacement for Gevalia C-60A

We broke our carafe on our old Gevalia C-60A coffee maker. It’s not a common model, and we almost bought a new coffee maker because of the hassle of finding a replacement. However, took a gamble and bought this carafe, though our model wasn’t listed as working with this carafe – and it fits!!

You’ll need to use the short lid adapter, included in package. The fit was still a little tight, though workable – my husband got creative though, and shaved a millimeter off the top of the plastic lid with an exacto knife. Now it fits in place perfectly! Giving all 5 stars to product, though, since the company didn’t advertise it as fitting our coffee maker and isn’t responsible for our shenanigans with sharp pointy objects.

Its dimensions are as follows: Height with Tall Lid: 6.63″, Height with Short Lid: 6.01″, Diameter of Pot: 5.98″, Diamater of Base of Pot: 4″. Check the product fit list on Medelco’s website if you’re not sure if your coffee pot will work with this model (can’t post due to review guidelines, but it’s easy to find via Google).

Good Replacement Carafe for Black & Decker DCM2160B

This glass carafe is a good replacement for my Black & Decker Model#DCM2160B. I believe this replacement glass carafe is good as it gets without paying some ridiculous price or actually replacing the whole coffemaker! Every coffeemaker I have ever owned always spills when pouring. This one is no different. This replacement carafe comes with 2 different lids to fit the different models they recommend. Although my Black & Decker coffeemaker was not menttioned it worked out perfectly. Until someone makes an unbreakable glass carafe, it only deserves 4 stars which is still a good thing. No matter what, glass carafes has to be handle with care.

So-So

We purchased this model since it was the only replacement carafe for our Kitchen Selectives coffee maker. It works very well in that capacity. My complaints are these:

1. The lid does not snap on easily and will fall off as you’re pouring if it is not.
2. The cup markers on the side are incorrect. Twelve is about 3/4 the way up the pot, but you have to nearly fill it to make twelve cups.
3. The design of the lid and handle allows steam/hot air from the pot to escape near the handle. If you’re pouring, it will burn your fingers. I’ve learned how to hold it so that doesn’t happen, but it isn’t how one would naturally grasp a coffee pot.

Awesome product

This item is well-designed and works as advertised. Only the tiniest of particles get through (like tiny dust specks). The holes are so small that residual water inside won’t pass without something forcing them through (so it leaves a few drops of water inside when removed). It fits a broad range of mugs, and the lid is sealed so that when you use it to hold the infuser between uses, it won’t leak. (The silicone gasket is firmly attached to the lid, so liquid won’t seep between it and the steel.) Only stainless steel comes in contact with the liquid, so there is no impact on the taste.

Simply the best tea-filter ever!

These days, product designs worth even commenting on are few and far apart.

I’d like to take a minute to praise this design – here are the highlights:

- Incredibly fine masking – even teas with really fine particulates (such as Rooibos and some green teas) leave almost no residue at the bottom of your cup.

- Perfect fit for almost any cup in my cupboard – even fits in teapot (and is large enough), if we have guests.

- Insulated lid keeps the tea hot for a good, long steep (I like my tea strong and hot!) – and it’s rubber all the way around, so you don’t burn your fingers when you remove it.

- The lid has a ridge, which helps it insulate better, but also doubles as a “parking spot” after steeping, so there’s no mess!

Beside the design, the quality of manufacture is also great – the masking is the finest I’ve ever seen, and the metal parts are beautifully finished, almost like chrome.

In my humble opinion, this is the best tea-strainer you’ll find.

And this is coming from someone who thinks 98 out of 100 products (especially kitchen products) on the market today are absolutely terrible in terms of design. Manufacture, for the most part, has gotten cheap and very good in the past 5-10 years – but design, in general, has been reduced to second-place, in favor of branding.

Consumers, pay attention! Don’t be fooled by over-priced brand-name junk – recognize good design, and spread the word when you see it. Talk about the products – ignore the brands. Help bring back good design and put an end to consumerism!

Given how much money you could spend on overpriced so-called “designer” junk, at 15 bucks, this product is worth every cent, and will stay with me for a long, long time!

At last, no cloudy tea.

I have brought several other tea infusersin the past, but this one puts all of them to shame. Loose teas or teabags, this infuser keeps out even the tiniest of tea sediments or “dust”. I’ve brewed all kinds of teas, from the clearer white teas to the deep amber colored teas and in all cases the brew were clear (not cloudy as from the other infusers) and very tasteful.
